I've been working on a new gallery for my website with help from tequt. They came up with the name "Gelsoft Miles" as a reference to Microsoft Bob, and I settled on the name Gelsoft Navigator. It's entirely html5 with no canvas. I started it yesterday and worked for a few hours on it so far.

The current live version is here: https://mileshouse.neocities.org/gelsoft/gallery

Right now it looks like this:

image.png (35.37 KiB) Viewed 4631 times

In the code, I struggled with coming up with a way to structure the directory object. I probably should have started out using a class-based structure, but I think it's still modular enough.

After some work today, it now looks like this:
image.png
image.png (173.27 KiB) Viewed 4626 times
image.png
image.png (266.51 KiB) Viewed 4626 times

It also has a few animations. The images individually zwip into view as they load, which looks pretty cute. I went with these zoomed-in views for the thumbnails, but if you mouse-over a thumbnail it shows an uncropped view. I like the randomness of the zoomed in views. Since its actually loading the full image, the thumbnail actually a portion of the original pic at 100% zoom. I like that it shows you a portion at the detail I was working at, even if it's unintelligible.

Some of the thumbnails are JUST awkward; any image with a large area of flat color at the center will just be a solid color. But looking at all of them, I like them better than full zoomed-out thumbnails. It also makes it more obvious that some of the picture is getting cut off, as opposed to using a partial-zoom to get consistently square thumbnails.
