Neo emojis that denden has gone and seen

I had some fun with the mastodon server and asked it how many unique neo emoji species it knows about on fedi, and what their population is.

This data is ONLY what emoji denden has seen, NOT the actual full amount that exist. Denden only knows about other server's emoji that were used in a post / display name / bio that needed to be displayed to a user at some point. So it's not a complete set

In the table, "Total Count" is the total number of emoji whose name starts with "neo(species)" that denden has seen. This means there are potentially a lot of copies of the same image, since different servers will have their own copies of the same set. "Unique sprites" is supposed to be the number of unique variations (like neocat_sad and neocat_happy). It might be a little higher than it should if a server named their set of emoji differently, but I think the vast majority were consistently named.

seeing so many instances of neopossum here feels like when you see a friend in the local news. holy shit!! it possum!!

also i didn't realize neocat was so popular. it makes sense but i feel like i don't actually see it that often
